The AEL programme at CUHK was truly a transformative experience. The courses I took were engaging and taught by enthusiastic and knowledgeable professors. In addition to gaining theoretical knowledge that deepened my understanding of applied linguistics, the interactive classroom activities and diverse assessment formats also helped me hone my oral skills and translate theoretical concepts into real-world applications. A highlight of my studies was the independent research project in Semester 2, where I gained firsthand experience conducting independent research under one-on-one supervision. I later presented my work at the interdisciplinary taught postgraduate student conference on arts and humanities, which gave me valuable insights into academic conference presentations. Together, these experiences strengthened my research skills and solidified my confidence in pursuing a PhD. All in all, this programme not only taught me applied linguistics but also encouraged me to think creatively and view the world through a linguistic lens. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone passionate about language, communication, or education, as I am confident it will equip you with the skills and confidence needed to pursue your goals.
